1080i and 720P HD, which is of higher definition
We often hear and see all kinds of digital camcorders marked with “HD 1080P”, “1080i” or “720P” and so forth. What is the difference between 1080P and 1080i? Does 720P belong to the HD formats? We really are engaged in a loss. Theses confusions will make the consumers be taken in. Now I use one of the most popular ways to explain what the difference between “P” and “I” is.
I will mainly talk about the 1080i and 720P. First of all, “P” refers to progressive scan, while “I” is interlaced. We all know that blinds structure. We suppose there are two areas A and B, the same installation window blinds, and curtains of leaves painted in the same pattern. A window blinds from the 720 blades, each blade is composition of this piece of painted pattern “pixels.” After installation is complete, curtains can be completely closed off. The leaves on the 720 “pixels” a pattern are very clear.
B and A windows have the same area. The difference is that window blinds of B is formed by the 1080 blades, and in 1080 painted shutters and A window on the leaves the same pattern. Although the two windows A and B have the same area, B cannot be fully closed with all 1080 blades. From top to down, you can only open one and close another one. Through the “curtain on and off”, we can see the pictures on the even or odd leaves. Respectively, see pattern on the leaves. It can not constitute a pattern that “pixels” of all the leaves. Therefore, the whole pattern of “pixels” form is incomplete. In fact, we can only see half of 1080 540 leaf pattern that constitutes a “pixel”.
Although for 1080i through the “curtain of non-stop on and off”, we can only see the even or odd leaves respectively, the “switch” or that “alternating display” is very rapid. Through the above examples of 720P and 1080i, we know that 1080P and 1080i have the same number of “leaves”, and they can “fully show” each leaf “pixel”. Therefore, 1080P is the most advanced high-definition format for digital camcorders.
1080i and 720P which is more “clear”? Among the 1080i, 720P and 1080P, 1080P is the format with the highest definition. 1080i and 720P both have their own strengths. It is difficult to judge which is of higher definition. We can learn about the Japanese digital camcorder TV standard, which is divided into five kinds of digital TV specifications, namely D1 to D5. D1 and D2 are the SD formats. From the D3 to D5, they are respective 1080i format, 720P and 1080P formats format.
